[Singapore] DIY Pancake

10:28 AM

My mom is a strong believer of a good breakfast leads you to a good day. So when we went to Singapore, all I can think of is ‘where I can get a good breakfast for my mom?’. After hours of browsing here, there and everywhere, I found this place and really curious about it.

Slappy Cakes is one of a kind family restaurant as they offer you a quite unique experience there. They let you to create your own pancakes! Yes, I died of excitement a little bit. A simple concepts that definitely brings a super fun factor not only to the kids, but also the adults. The table set with a griddle pan in the middle, so you can cook literally on your table.

They offer 5 kinds of batter for SGD 8.5 each bottle, and various toppings from SGD 1.5-3 for each portion. Pricey, I know. I get so frustrated by this because I want to try every single thing. We end up ordering the Buttermilk Batter and their Maple Syrup topping. Something simple, but if this one taste really good, it will mean a lot.

Overall the buttermilk pancake that my mom and I made was good. The end results was smooth and not leaving that eggy aftertaste. Well, to be frank it was probably because my mom who cook the pancake to perfection. But I noticed that their pancake don’t get burnt easily even when you cook it longer than you should. Other than that, nothing really special about the pancake. Oh! I’m lovin’ the maple syrup tho! Even though it was given in a very small amount.

We also ordered their all day breakfast menu. My mom got Potato Delight with Sausage (SGD 17.5). It was a handful of blended mashed potatoes with egg and chicken. It also topped with shiitake mushrooms, chicken sausage, mixed greens and toast. I’m loving the texture of the mashed potato. It was very smooth and rich in flavor. Probably because they mix some eggs and chicken inside, but it was still a good breakfast choice. Good one mom!

Meanwhile, I ordered their Mushroom Scramble for SGD 15. It was a plate of scrambled egg mixed with roasted mushrooms, caramelized red onions and spinach. Also served with a scoop of grilled potatoes, turkey bacon and toast. I super love the scrambled eggs! It was perfectly cooked even with a handful of other toppings that taste a little bit too soggy. However the turkey bacon was too dry and very hard to chew. Other than that, everything was good.

In conclusion, my breakfast at Slappy Cakes was quite nice. Personally I think their all day breakfast menu are something worth to try for. However I find the DIY pancake thing is a bit pricey, especially if you want to add more toppings to your pancake. I spent about SGD 11.5 only for the pancakes and maple syrup. But seriously, you should try the breakfast menu. It was awesome!
