Jani Journey Journal

Went to the Jakarta Biennale a couple of days ago to see some exhibition and installation by local artist. Surprisingly enjoyed it even though that day was extremely hot and the place where it’s held was in a huge warehouse with metal roof (which make the warehouse ten times hotter!). Here are some of favorites from the exhibition.

The Jakarta Biennale 2017 ends at 10^th of December 2017. So if you want to check these installation come soon as it will end in just a couple of days. The exhibition is free of entrance but please note that you cannot bring any bag inside. However they provide you a place to store your stuffs.

Can you believe it’s December already??? Seriously where the time goes? It feels just like yesterday I was celebrating New Year with my best friends by hiking a mountain, now we’re arranging for another year end trip! Oh well ...

By the way, here is some of my favorite songs for the past few months.

1. Benar Nyata – Nino & Nagita

“Ada yang tak biasa, diantara kita

Baru kurasakan adanya padamu”

2. Take Me – Aly & AJ

“I’ve been spending my attention on you

I don’t wait long ‘cause I got better things to do”

3. What Lovers Do – Maroon 5 feat SZA

“Aren’t we too grown for games?

Aren’t we too grown to play around?”

4. Homesick – Dua Lipa

“You give me a reason, something to believe in”

5. Beautiful Trauma – P!nk

“These tough times they keep coming,

Last night I might have messed it up again”

I have and will always have a thing for ice cream. Even when I’m having a really bad cough or even when the weather is -10 degrees, I will always have a thing for ice cream. This ice cream madness always strikes every time I explore a new place/area. Therefore when I went to Kebon Jeruk area a couple of days ago, the first thing in my mind was ‘is there any ice cream place around here?’. And voila! That’s how I found this amazing ice cream store.

Paletas Wey is a Mexican popsicle store that started it all in Bali on 2015. They are the first one introduce the authentic Mexican Paletas to Indonesia. Mexican Paletas is the most typical form of ice cream in Mexico. These ice cream concept expanded throughout Central and South America creating a whole new concept among different countries and cultures. By the way did you know that “Paleta” is describing the wooden stick on their frozen delights are served.

I bought the Chocolate Premium (IDR 32.000) while my friend bought the Strawberry Kiwi Fruity (IDR 23.000). We both fall in love at the first bite!

I love how you can taste how creamy the chocolate was. The chocolate was rich and has the perfect level of sweetness without that sugar rush effect. The strawberry-kiwi was also surprisingly super nice! It blends perfectly with each other without overpowering one another. I love how fresh the taste of these fruit even though it was super cold/frozen. However my friends was expecting it to be a little bit more sour but still she doesn’t mind. The ice cream were superb!

First of all, don’t be surprised by the name of the museum. Museum MACAN doesn’t show a range of tiger collection but it is an acronym of Modern and Contemporary Art in Nusantara. The currently most talked about museum by the hipster in Jakarta.

The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Nusantara (Museum MACAN) is the first institution of its kind, providing public access to a significant and growing collection of modern and contemporary art from Indonesia and around the world. The museum has an active program of exhibitions and events in a 4000 square meter facility including onsite education. Their current exhibition is the “Art Turns. World Turns”.

Co-curated by Charles Esche and Agung Hujatnika, this exhibition features 90 artworks from the Museum’s collection, showcasing artworks by Indonesian and international artists. It also present a narrative that explores the resonance between Indonesia and the world.

The museum is open from 10 AM daily (closed on Monday). The entrance ticket for the museum is IDR 50.000 for regular ticket. They also have a student price ticket for IDR 45.000 just by showing the ticketing staff your student ID. Your ticket is valid all day. So you can get in and out from the museum as much as you want as long it is still on the same day as your ticket date. However the last admission is at 6 PM, since the museum is closing at 7 PM.

To be honest, I’m not exactly an art person. I don’t really understand the art of the arts (do you understand what I mean?) but I love to walk around the museum and learn the story behind these arts.

Some of them even captured my attention the moment I saw it from afar, like this one.

This one.

And also this one.

Overall my experience to Museum MACAN is really satisfying. The museum show a tons of collections that vary from an old/vintage collection to more modern/hip. Even though most of the visitor come just to take an ‘instagenic’ picture there, I’m hoping the wide art collection will somehow attract them to appreciate and encourage them to think out of the box. I hope in the future there will be more museum like this one.

Oh! I almost forgot. The main reason that made me visit this museum, The Infinity Room by Yayoi Kusama.

Went to Plaza Indonesia for a quick lunch with a friend before my afternoon meeting around Thamrin area. When we were strolling around, looking for something to eat, we found this black door and we found the door to Narnia ……. Just kidding! However we really do found this magical place.

The room is actually an exhibition called Plaza Indonesia’s Infinity Room. The exhibition is located at the corner of the 5^th floor of Plaza Indonesia. My friend, Rina, and I couldn’t hide our excitement for finding a hidden gem like that. When we were there, there were nobody around so we spend almost an hour inside the exhibition.

I think this exhibition need a little bit more publicity because it was so cool but seems like nobody really notice it. Probably it was all because the location and the black door that doesn’t seem appealing from the outside.

Anyway, if you guys happened to be in Plaza Indonesia, do find this place, take pictures and tag me in your post. Would love to see your creativity around this infinity room. Oh and by the way, the exhibition is totally FREE OF CHARGE!

I’ve been planning to go to this place for a few weeks and finally I made it although bad things happen along the way. Initially my friend, Nadia, and I want to go there to spend the rest of the afternoon. Sadly on our way to the café, Nadia’s car hit by another car from the back. It was a mess, but thankfully both of us are okay. Got some troubles with the car owner that hit us but in the end everything was just fine.

Now back to the food stuff!

District 7 Coffee (also known as The Cotton Ink Café) is located at the 2^nd floor of Cotton Ink Store in Kemang. I love how the café was filled with cute pink wall and lots of instagenic stuff to take pictures with.

Nadia ordered Hot Chocolate (IDR 25K). She said the hot chocolate was nice and has a very rich taste. However she will like it better if the chocolate was a bit bitterer.

Meanwhile I ordered Pink Punch (IDR 35K), the one that got talked all over instagram. It was a cup of refreshing pink colored punch filled with a handful of soursop. I was a bit skeptical about this one at first. I’m not a big fan of soursop, but turns out it was really nice. The punch was so refreshing and has a perfect level of acidity to freshen up your day and swept off your bad mood. I was thinking to get another one, but sadly they were out of it.

We didn’t stay too long in the café since we have to deal with some paper stuff due to our car accident that day. However I’m looking forward to come again to this place to try their coffee and their infamous Nasi Krucil.
